We are Zulfi and Greta Moon, husband and wife team of urban cyclists & designers. Our goal is to bring form, function and style to the cycle to work commuter, with the emphasis on all our products now being handmade by us wherever we are.
Vel-Oh was born in London, with the very first scribbles and ideas in 2014. Since then we have worked mostly out of our flat in London until August 2016, when we moved over to rural Ireland. We have now relocated again, and are currently in Greta's hometown of Klaipeda, Lithuania. Our studio, is not as big, however the positive side of this is that the postage is quicker!
It all started by us getting rusty old bikes and cycling to work mostly to save time and money on the every day commute. But we quickly realised that none of the bags we had were suitable. They were either stylish but not very practical, or vise versa. So one day we decided we wanted to make a bag for ourselves. The whole design process started to give us goosebumps and the first sample was made over 24 hour non stop cutting and sewing marathon. We just didn't want to go to sleep until we finished it! And after that we just didn't want to stop making...
We use British Millerain waxed cotton and canvas. There are a few reasons behind why this material in particular starting with the most obvious one waxed canvas can deal with any weather. Another reason being that the company itself treats us like any other client whether we buy 3m of sample material or a whole roll! And finally because we know where it comes from and we like using local materials. On most of our designs you'll also see bits of leather, which comes from a leather merchant in London. The folks there are so helpful and the variety of leather and hardware is amazing. So that was just a no brainer. The heavy duty cotton webbing also comes from the UK, it's super strong and luxurious. Finally the slight obsession of polka dots. Every bag is lined with a polka dot cotton material, which is currently delivered to us from Ireland.
